This unfortunate college was home to Alex for three

trying years. Reed became the first college to ever fire its

entire staff (excluding faculty) in one fell swoop, just a

few days after it had been learned that, through a clerical

error, Alex's application for transfer had been approved;

Reed also became the second college to accomplish the

feat when through a similar error Alex was awarded a

diploma and degree in 1992.

This troubled website has led a life of pain and frustration since

being separated from Alex, its father, in 1997. Despite soothing

words of comfort from its mother, Nova Spivack, the site has

remained bitter towards Alex and swears that it will "put its applet

where its mouth is" the next time Alex logs on to Gamelan by Chat-ing him

to death.
